Old Fashioned Cocktail

The Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail with a rich history, dating back to the early 19th century. It's a simple yet sophisticated drink that highlights the flavors of whiskey or bourbon, balanced with sugar and bitters, and garnished with citrus peel.

Here's how to make an Old Fashioned:

Ingredients:
2 oz (60 ml) whiskey or bourbon
1 sugar cube or 1/2 oz (15 ml) simple syrup
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
Orange peel or lemon peel, for garnish
Ice cubes

Serving Instructions:
Prepare the Glass:

Place a sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass (also known as a rocks glass) or add the simple syrup.
Add 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters onto the sugar cube or into the glass.
Muddle:

Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to muddle the sugar cube with the bitters, creating a paste. If using simple syrup, skip this step.
Add Ice:

Fill the glass with ice cubes. Large ice cubes are preferred to minimize dilution.
Pour Whiskey:

Pour 2 oz (60 ml) of whiskey or bourbon over the ice.
Stir:

Stir gently to combine the ingredients and chill the drink.
Garnish:

Express the oils from a strip of orange or lemon peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a twist.
Optionally, drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
Serve:

Serve the Old Fashioned straight up, without a straw.

Tips:
Use a good quality whiskey or bourbon for the best flavor.
Adjust the sweetness to your taste by adding more or less sugar or simple syrup.
Feel free to experiment with different types of bitters for variations in flavor.
Some variations include adding a cherry as a garnish or muddling a cherry with the sugar and bitters.
The Old Fashioned is a timeless cocktail that's perfect for sipping and savoring. Its simplicity and depth of flavor make it a favorite among cocktail enthusiasts worldwide.
